Karisma Kapoor's Children vs Stepmother: Unpaid College Fees & Estate Battle (2025)

A high-profile family feud has erupted, with Karisma Kapoor's children entangled in a legal battle over unpaid college fees and their late father's estate. This is a story of wealth, family drama, and a clash of wills, playing out in the Delhi High Court. The central conflict involves Karisma Kapoor's children and their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, over the management of Sunjay Kapur's assets.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur, who were married from 2003 to 2016, share two children. The recent court proceedings were sparked by the actress's daughter flagging unpaid college fees in the US. This led to a sharp exchange between the legal representatives, underscoring the tension between the parties. The court, however, has urged both sides to keep the dispute restrained.

Justice Jyoti Singh, presiding over the case, expressed her disapproval of the escalating drama. She stated, "I don't want to spend more than 30 seconds on this. This question should not come to my court again. I don't want this hearing to be melodramatic." This strong stance indicates the court's desire to keep the focus on the core legal issues.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, argued that the responsibility for educational expenses was a direct outcome of the matrimonial decree, and the fees were indeed pending. He also pointed out that Priya Kapur was accountable, as the children's estate remained under her control.

However, Priya Kapur's counsel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, countered these claims. He insisted that all expenses raised by the children had been paid and suggested that the fee dispute was merely a publicity stunt. The judge then directed Priya Kapur's counsel to ensure such grievances do not resurface in court.

But here's where it gets controversial... The larger issue at stake is an interim injunction sought by the siblings. They are attempting to prevent Priya Kapur from dealing with Sunjay Kapur’s assets. They have accused her of forging his will to gain control of his entire estate. The contested will, dated March 21, 2025, purportedly leaves all personal assets to Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Nayar defended the will's authenticity, claiming it was shared within the family's WhatsApp group and was attested by witnesses. He stated that the document's validity would stand unless disproven during the trial. The High Court is scheduled to resume the hearing on November 19 and has indicated its desire to expedite the arguments regarding the injunction.

And this is the part most people miss... The legal battle brings to light the complexities of inheritance and family disputes, especially in high-profile cases. The court's primary objective is to ensure a fair resolution while preventing the proceedings from becoming overly dramatic. The case highlights the importance of financial responsibility and the legal implications of wills and estate management.
