What Are Strawberry Boba Balls?
Strawberry Boba balls, “popping pearls”, “popping boba”, or “bursting boba” are small balls (about ⅜” in diameter) filled with delicious and refreshing fruit juices that pop when you bite into them. Flavors range from strawberry and pear to peach and pineapple, and they are incredibly popular in North America but fast becoming a beverage sensation in Europe and Asia as well.
Boba balls are usually used as a topping for tea or iced milk but there are so many ways to enjoy them. They are also great for desserts, cakes, and over ice cream.
What Is Strawberry Boba Made Of?
Water, strawberry juice, sugar, calcium lactate, malic acid, artificial coloring, and fruit flavoring are used to make boba balls. Seaweed extract is what forms the outer wall or skin.
How to Make Strawberry Boba
Step 1: Make the Tea
- Boil the water in a pot. Add the tea bag, cover the pot, and leave the tea for steep for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and let it cool to room temperature. Then chill it in the fridge.
Step 2: Make Strawberry Syrup
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add strawberries, sugar, and water. Cook until the strawberries become mushy, stirring occasionally.
- Use a fork to mash the strawberries completely. Continue to cook and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Strain the strawberry syrup through a sieve. Set aside.
Step 3: Cook Boba Pearls
- According to the package instructions, make the boba. Remove the boba from the pot using a slotted spoon and let it cool to room temperature. Stir the boba into the strawberry syrup so that they won’t stick together.
Step 4: Assemble the Drink
- In a tall glass, add ice, then add half of the strawberry boba.
- Pour half of the chilled tea and milk. Stir everything together. Repeat with the rest. Serve and enjoy!
Is Strawberry Boba Healthy?
Strawberry Boba should be enjoyed in moderation as a treat. It has little to no nutritional value and is high in sugar and carbohydrates.
How To Store Strawberry Boba
It is best to eat Boba balls within 4 hours of making them. They can become soft but they should not be stored in the fridge as this will make them hard. If you must store them, place in a jar at room temperature and cover with sugar syrup or fructose to prevent them from sticking together.
Where To Buy Boba Tapioca Pearls
Because they are so popular at the moment, you can easily find Boba balls in almost any grocery store in North America. This unique treat can also be found online from Amazon or Walmart.
How Does Strawberry Boba Taste?
This version of Strawberry Boba tastes like beautiful fresh strawberries with a dash of cream. There’s also a subtle tea flavor that balances the sweetness of the strawberry syrup.
How Do You Make Strawberry Boba Tapioca?
In a nonstick saucepan, combine 40g sugar with 100g strawberry puree. Stir and bring to a boil over medium heat. The mixture will start to form bubbles – at this point, add 55g of tapioca starch to the saucepan. Mix quickly and thoroughly with a spatula.
